Purpose of this blog

This blog is my attempt to change the way I look at events in the world around me. I have found that most of the news headlines I see everyday on my computer almost seem designed to inspire fear or anger or depression or doubt. When I study and ponder the Holy Scriptures, these negative feelings fade away, replaced by feelings of wonder, amazement, peace, joy, love, hope.

No New Thing Under the Sun

Ecclesiastes 1:9. The problems in the world today are neither insurmountable nor unique. We often hear about the hard work, the labor, that will be required to overcome the problems we face. Our law-makers express and demonstrate great willingness to work long hours in writing, understanding, and debating laws. Our business leaders similarly might demonstrate great effort in restructuring their organizations and administering their affairs to try to earn the confidence of the government and consumers. I believe that in all that labor, a significant portion should be devoted to understanding God. When this course is diligently and sincerely pursued, God's love will infuse the the mind and heart of each individual. Truly, God can thus make more of an individual than he or she can make of himself or herself. Thus, our country can be "one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all". Because the love of God will be our ultimate guiding influence, the Spirit of God will abide more abundantly and persistently in the hearts and minds of people everywhere and where the spirit of God is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17). We will also recognize that we are all children of God which will both humble us and improve our confidence in asking for His guidance in regulating the affairs of our world. (Romans 8:13-16).
